A highly-regarded fashion illustrator René Gruau (4 February 1909 – 31 March 2004) achieved widespread acclaim with his exaggerated style of fashion design. His innovative and bold style continues to have an impact on the fashion industry to this day. With his skills and creativity Gruau directly contributed to reshaping the global industry with his vibrant representations of other popular works created by leading fashion designers.

The benefits, including economic stimulation and enhancement of advertising are still vividly presented in the industry today via a new way of fashion illustration, fashion photography. After having his works included in such fashion institutions as Marie-Claire, LÓfficiel, Femina, and L’Album Du Figaro, Gruau rose to become one of haute couture’s most-loved artists during the 1940s and 50s.

Even outside the fashion world the reach and effect of Gruau’s oeuvre cannot be ignored, with his works on display in internationally-renowned institutions such as the Louvre. Thanks to his skill and appeal Gruau’s body of artwork continues to be “known for its timeless and enduring style”.
